What governs the return window and the warranty
The 30-day window and the 12-month warranty on this page are our own published terms — no federal rule compels a seller to accept a return. Two rules do govern the warranty itself: the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act fixes how a written warranty must be designated and what a “full” warranty would have to promise, and the mail-order rule fixes the refund clock when an order never ships.
- 15 U.S.C. § 2303 — why this warranty says “limited”. A warrantor must “clearly and conspicuously designate” a written warranty as a “full (statement of duration) warranty” if it meets the federal minimum standards in § 2304, and as a “limited warranty” if it does not. The designation applies to consumer products costing more than $10. Ours is designated limited because it does not carry those minimum standards — that word is a statutory test result, not a downgrade of a promise we used to make.
- 15 U.S.C. § 2304(a) — what a full warranty would have to do. A full warrantor must remedy the product “within a reasonable time and without charge,” may not limit the duration of any implied warranty, may not exclude consequential damages unless the exclusion is conspicuous on the face of the warranty, and after a reasonable number of repair attempts must let the consumer “elect either a refund for, or replacement without charge of” the product. A limited warranty does not carry those minimums. Ours promises repair or replacement of a defect confirmed on inspection — a narrower promise, stated plainly rather than blurred.
- 16 CFR § 435.1 and § 435.2 — the refund clock that is not ours. Where an order cannot ship inside the stated time, the rule requires the seller to offer cancellation with a “prompt refund,” defined as one sent within seven working days of the date the right to it vests. The 5–7 business days we publish for a received return is our own processing window; the seven-working-day clock is the one that applies to a cancellation.
- The 15% restocking fee — ours, not a rule. No federal rule requires a return window or a restocking fee; both are contract terms, and we state ours before you buy rather than discovering them at the counter. Whether such a fee is enforceable is decided under the terms you accepted at checkout and the law of your state, which is where a dispute about it would be heard.
